Yes, it’s official! I’ve kicked off the Christmas season!
Even though I’ve picked up a couple of Christmas gifts here and there over the past weeks… Took cookies to church for a carol sing… Wrapped the banisters in garland and sprigs of berries, and decorated the trees (upstairs and down…dear husband made a trip to Walgreen’s for bulbs since half of them wouldn’t work – what a sweetie!), I have to admit I really wasn’t in total Christmas mode until yesterday. That’s when my wonderful writing buddies came over for our annual Christmas breakfast and gift exchange.
Hilda and Heather think we started this tradition seven years ago; Shelley thinks more like eight. And since I have no memory at all anymore, I haven’t even tried to come up with a year. All I know is that after meeting every other Friday all year long, I’m so glad we culminate our time together with a yummy Christmas breakfast.
We were, however, missing someone this year. One of our friends, Julie, moved to Iowa recently, so there were place settings for four instead of five this holiday. But she certainly wasn’t forgotten as we shared sweet festive treats with one another – along with news of family, our hopes for the coming year, and expressions of gratitude for the year we’ve come through together. Once we couldn’t eat one more bite of a cinnamon roll or apple fritter cake (it took a while to get to that point, to be sure!), we opened presents and packaged up donations for a local charity.
No doubt I feel incredibly blessed to have these ladies in my life all year through and to “kick off” the celebration of Christ’s coming with them is a super treat. Now I just need to get shopping…and finishing up those cards!!
Anybody else have something that kicks off the season for them?

Hi Cathy,
Yes, that was a terrific breakfast. I wish we ate like that every month!
How do I kick of the Christmas season? I put up my Christmas house collection way too early. There’s something about those little houses twinkling at night that makes me smile.
What a beautiful website!
Hmm…maybe we could try to do those yummy breakfasts more than once a year. A Christmas in July, maybe? Thanks for checking out my new site, Shelley. I’m just getting used to it too!!
