Wondering if you saw Jennifer Davis’s post at the Beaded Hope website If you have a minute, please vote for Lana :)

Posted at Apr 6, 2010 12:04 pm

Lana (like banana) is a wife, a mother (of 5 kids!), home educator, voracious reader and prolific blogger. I met Lana recently after she wrote a review of Beaded Hope by Cathy Liggett. She loved the book. Actually, that’s putting it too mildly. She L.O.V.E.D the book (check out her full review here) and after she wrote her review she started tweeting about it. She tweeted so much that I had to send her a note and thank her for all the kudos that she was lavishing on Beaded Hope.

Then a few days later Lana decided to enter her blog in a contest for mom bloggers. Little Remedies is giving away a top prize of $1000 to the mom blogger who receives the most votes between now and April 26th.

But, here’s the thing, Lana has challenged all of her readers to vote for her blog to win the prize and, if she wins, she will donate half of the prize to Beaded Hope. Lana has decided to get involved in a way that makes perfect sense for her….how cool is that!

So, I think you ought to run on over to and place a vote for ILoveMy5Kids.  Seriously, get moving. And don’t forget that you can vote once a day between now and April 26th.

Then check out Lana’s blog at ILoveMy5Kids or follow her on twitter.

Thanks, Lana, for having such a big heart and for getting passionate!

Another Day…Another Drip!

Posted at Feb 28, 2010 1:04 pm

Has the winter weather wreaked havoc with anyone’s house but ours? In the past couple of weeks, we’ve had some situations with water seeping down walls. The worst was the one morning I got up, went to turn off the front porch light and heard a stomach-dropping — Drip! Drip! Drip! It was a mini waterfall coming down the threshold of our dining room.

Needless to say the morning didn’t go as planned. After cleaning the inside mess, my husband and I moved outside to try to fix our ice-blocked gutters. Naturally, one thing led to another. By the time we finished, I was really irritated. I’d had big plans for my morning off from work – and now all that time was gone! I grumped and whined — a lot. And then I thought of something — I thought about the women in South Africa. Every time it rains these women have to hold their very few possessions over their heads so they won’t get drenched and ruined on their soaked dirt floors. Thinking of them made me feel pitifully petty and self-absorbed…and obviously thankful, too.

Anything that’s made anyone else feel thankful lately?  Any hints of spring maybe? 🙂

A Sweet Story

Posted at Feb 18, 2010 4:58 pm

Once upon a time there were two ladies. I will call them Shelley and Heather — because that’s their names!! Shelley and Heather both had little kids. They also had big passions to write. One day — POW!! – they met each other at a writers’ meeting (OVRWA -Ohio Valley Romance Writers’ of America, to be exact). They said, hey, maybe we should meet like this more often. And so they did.Every other week, sometimes even dragging their kids along, they met. They read one another’s writing and encouraged and helped each other. Soon –well, it didn’t feel that fast, and the rejections along the way didn’t feel too good either — but relatively soon, both Shelley Galloway and Heather Webber got published. Shelley wrote sweet romances, Heather historical romances. But then more time passed and Shelley wasn’t just writing sweet romances, she was also writing for Harlequin American!! And Heather wasn’t just writing historical romances she was penning her award-winning Nina Quinn cozy mystery series!!Through it all they kept meeting and their kids kept growing (all in high school and/or college now). And actually Shelley and Heather kept growing too. Now Shelley Galloway also writes several Amish series as Shelley Shepard Gray. Heather Webber has a new mainstream fiction series that’s love/mystery/women’s fiction all rolled into one. And the BEST PART IS, after all these years together, they both had books released on the same day this year — February 2nd. “Winter’s Awakening” by Shelley Shepard Gray and “Truly, Madly” by Heather Webber. Oh, wait — did I saw that was the best part? Honestly, it isn’t. The best part is if you met these ladies (who I will call Shelley and Heather because that’s their names!), you would love them as much as you love their books.

I Admit It – I’m Addicted!

Posted at Jan 16, 2010 11:00 am

There was a time many years ago — okay, several lifetimes ago — in high school actually when I was addicted. It was a pretty bad addiction too. Had me slothing around all grumpy, falling asleep in classes, not looking my best. Yes, I was addicted all right. To a game. Solitaire.

Of course, they didn’t have computer games way back when. No, instead when everyone else in my family fell asleep at night, I’d stay up, doing my thing. I’d get out my deck of cards, prop up my pillows, smooth out my comforter, and start plopping the cards down on my bed top. Night after night after…well, you get the picture.

And now I’m doing the same thing. Oh – not at night – far too dead tired at the end of the day for that. No, it’s mostly in the morning. Or the middle of the day for a little “reward.” Or when I’m supposed to be making dinner. Instead of hovering over things simmering on the stove, I sneak up to the computer and then makes excuses later as to why everything’s a little on the dry side.

What’s the game I’m addicted to? Warning: Don’t read any further if you don’t want to be addicted too… Okay, if you dare, here goes. It’s Text Twist on Yahoo. Ever try it? Are you hooked too? Any support groups out there?
